Kabarak University Speaks After Recovering Their Facebook Account

Kabarak University finally managed to restore their Facebook page on Tuesday after being under the control of a hacker from Indonesia for several days.

The official page of Kabarak University was hacked last week by an IT student in one of the high schools in Indonesia and he was putting his posts in a foreign language, English and even Kiswahili.

On Tuesday, the Baringo County-based tertiary institution confirmed that they had successfully recovered the account from the hacker with the help of a cyber security team from Meta Inc.

"The restoration process took many sleepless nights and days, but the team was determined to succeed and restore the university's online presence. A successful restoration shows the importance of having a strong network security system," the statement of the head of the institution Henry Kiplangat read.

The management of the college expressed their sincere gratitude to Meta Inc. for their assistance in the recovery of the account. "The university is looking forward to further strengthening the partnership with Meta Inc, especially in training, to improve our cyber security measures and expand our ability to prevent and mitigate cyber attacks," Kiplangat said.

Professor Kiplangat admitted that the hacking of the page threatened the image and reputation of the university online and caused the risk of losing trust from stakeholders and the general public. Last week, an IT student from Indonesia took control of Kabarak University's verified page with over forty thousand followers and was uploading his posts including photos and videos.

Initially, he was posting in a foreign language until Saturday when he started addressing Kenyans in the language they understand, English, after realizing that they were closely following his actions.
