Kirinyaga county health officials have dismissed claims by the Education Director that 12000 students out of 16000 students were diagnosed and treated STIs.
Addressing the media, Kirinyaga County CEC for Medical Services, Public Health and Sanitation, CEC George Karoki, reports by Kennedy Machora were exaggerated and misleading. This is because the director of education's report has no trusted source. According to Karoki, the health department recorded and treated 1345 cases of STIs in Kirinyaga central subcounty and 4409 cases in the entire county.
He added that even though offering community education that sensitizes youths on effects of risky sexual behaviour is important, it is good for officers to consult health officials for accurate data.
