In many parts of Kenya, the poverty level is very high. The poverty level affects the family including the school children. This has been the case for majority of residents in Teso Constituency in Busia County.
According to the latest report, the poverty level in this part of Kenya is very high. Most of the school kids have been going to schools with very old and torn school uniforms. This has been a major contributing factor to poor performance of the learners especially in primary schools. It has been revealed that most of the parents cannot afford the basic school requirements for their children due to lack of finances and high poverty level.
One school has been recognized as Kikalet primary school where largest number of learners lack basic requirements including school uniforms. Most of the learners go to school without the school uniforms. The pupils and parents in this school however have a reason to smile as wellwishers have responded to their problems and given them new school uniforms.
The pupils from this area have been attending school with torn clothes. The learners will now manage to concentrate to their studies after the wellwishers gave them new school uniforms.
Kids usually get low self esteem when dressed poorly in torn clothes which disrupts their concentration in studies and also in class. The teachers have also been sending the learners home frequently as they have been dressing up in worn-out uniforms while some others did not have uniform.
Teachers and well wishers have now called upon the government officials to be helping leaners with essential school materials including school uniforms especially in Counties where poverty level is very high. Some of the pupils explained that they do not concentrate in class since they feel uncomfortable as a result of their worn-out clothes. The pupils were also given other learning materials
