A KCPE candidate from Nyahururu Townview Academy in the Ol-Joro Orok Constituency was hospitalized on Wednesday night with burn wounds she allegedly received during a play activity at the school's grounds soon after passing her most recent national exam.
During a nighttime celebration with her classmates, the student allegedly suffered hand and facial injuries.
The victim claimed that their school's principal had ordered all of the candidates to congregate outside the school's grounds and light a bonfire following dinner as part of celebrations that lasted until around 2:00 am.
The student described their good times at the Nyahururu County and Referral Hospital where she was taken for treatment. However, she was pushed to the side.
The incident, according to her parents, was not made known to them until Thursday morning, when they went to pick up their daughter from school as instructed after the end of exams.
The girl's mother, Esther Wambui, bemoaned the fact that she only found out about the incident after a fellow student pointed her in the direction of her daughter, who was lying in the dorms and writhing in pain.
The school waited hours before telling Mrs. Wambui about the incident and taking any action, which raised questions for Mrs. Wambui about how such an incident could have happened.
