In one of the city schools, the administration allegedly bribed kids 30 shillings apiece, to keep secret a horrific act by a class teacher.
Michelle answered a question wrongly in class. Annoyed by this, her class teacher hit her hard severely. Sadly she later succumbed to the injuries inflicted upon her. The school administration, in response, dumped her body at Mama Lucy Hospital. In an attempt to silence witnesses, who in this case were Michele's classmates, the teachers bribed them to stay quiet. In a story reminiscent of the biblical tale of Judas, the children were each given 30 shillings to forget the event. However, the kids laden with guilt went home and narrated to their parents the events of the day blow by blow. Armed with this information and the secrecy and non-cooperation from the school administration, Michell's mum Hilda Achieng sought justice at Kayole Police Station.
The indifferent and apathetic Investigating Officer at the Police Station told her to forget her daughter, go back home and get more babies. In a case of double tragedy, When Michell's body arrived at her final resting place, her grandmother saw her body, collapsed and died on the spot.
With nowhere else to go, Hilda reached out to human rights activist Boniface Mwangi to help her seek justice for her dear departed daughter.
