Former Australian University Professor Who Is One Of The 2 Most Educated Male MPs In Kenya

In a country where about a third of the Member's of Parliament do not have college or university degree, Wajir South MP Mohamed Sheikh Mohamud has distinguished himself as one of the two most educated male legislators in the country.

Alongside Borabu MP Zadock Ogutu, the Wajir South lawmaker is one of the only two legislators with an academic title of Professor in the entire House of 312 members.

In his local village where he grew up, Prof. Sheikh Mohamud is known as Dr Omaar because of his training in the medical profession.

An old boy of Wajir High School, Prof. Mohamud a Masters of Health Sciences from the University of Sydney, Australia and another Masters degree in Public Health from the same institution.

For his doctorate degree, Prof. Mohamud holds a PhD from the University of Sydney, Australia.

He would later embark on a career in the world of academics where he rose through the ranks to the position of Professor at the University of New South Wales, Australia.

With over 40 scientific research papers published to his name, Prof. Mohamud was in the world of academics for around 16 years before quitting to make a huge plunge into the murky world of politics.

A renowned philanthropist in his constituency, the academic- turned politician felt that it was necessary to join politics as the locals felt shortchanged by their leaders.
