Why KUCCPS Plan To Review Entry Requirements Is Likely A Big Blow To Students Universities &Colleges

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has today begins the process of reviewing the degree and diploma criteria for placement of government sponsored students to universities.

The CEO Agnes Wahome also stated in the initial briefing that the meeting was set to review the minimum entry requirements to universities and colleges. The plans to review entry requirements is likely to be a big Blow to students, colleges and universities in the following ways.

The increase in the direct entry grade in universities is likely to lock out many students thus hindering them from enrolling for degree programs. This will lead to low labour personell in the country forcing the government to import.

Lowering of university and colleges entry grades will leads to congestion and stiff competition for learning resources making the institutions find it hard to budget and maintain equilibrium.Besides it will also hinders creativity as most students will be at comfort zones.

Rapid rise in number of students joining universities due to lowered grades will lead to increase in government expenditures through allocating huge sums in HELB sectors. This may also affect citizens as taxes and prices of commodities will be increased to maintain equilibrium.

Students will not get proper education since shortage of lecturers as well as resources are likely to be witnessed as many will join universities if grade are lowered.Besides congestion will make lecturers find it hard to evaluate learners.
