University ranking has been in existence for several decades now. Kenyan public and private universities have used such rankings in the past to create positive image of their institution hence increased enrollment. It is also important for international students who may try to find out what institution suits them best.

According to the latest webometrics ranking used to rank several universities across the globe, University of Nairobi has once again toped the chart has the Kenya's best University. Egerton University, Kenyatta University have been ranked second and third respectively.

Moi University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology both claimed fourth and fifth positions respectively closing on the Kenya's best institutions of higher learning.

In the private Universities categories, Strathmore University, United States International University, Daystar University and Mountain Kenya Universities have dominated the top slots for the past few years.

It is not the first time UoN is dominating the national ranking, last year, it emerged the best institution both nationally and in East Africa. However, the subsequent positions have been varying depending on the assessment of the study. Webometrics normally considers different factors such as the level of transparency on journals published by such institution among others.
