Kenyan teachers are up in arms. They are complaining about the increased workloads in schools due to the number of lessons. The teachers have to prepare their schemes of work, lesson plans and other documents such as progress records. They are also left to carry the burden of appraisals and submissions of the Tpads in schools.
Recently, the teachers missed out in the CBA negotiations. They ended up with no monetary offer in their negotiations.Instead, teachers are left to wait for long before getting another payrise. The major concern of teachers is the introduction of the Teacher Professional and Development modules trainings.Teachers have been ambushed with this kind of training. They will have to spend their monies in funding their studies.
The union leaders have not been so much concerned in addressing the teachers' cries about spending their own monies.A section of the teachers are now pushing TSC to reschedule the program. They say that during the holidays they have to be with their children at home to guide them. They say that they should be trained during the school days.Besides this, they want the Commission to pay for the fees. Are the teachers headed to the streets to express their dissapointments?
