'No School Will charge Fees for Junior Secondary Schools, CS Machogu

Good news to parents after president William Ruto declared that Junior Secondary School will be free starting from the new academic year which will commence on January 23.

It will be a huge relief to parents and teacher after the state made an increase in government capitation to upto 15,000 per year. This was after school heads asked for the review of government capitation to primary schools.

Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu made the announcement during the release of secondary placement for the last years candidates.

" President Ruto has directed the Treasury to set aside KES 15,000 per learner as capitation to facilitate free learning in all public schools; govt will spend a total of KES 9.6B for the learners in JSS in this calendar year…No school should charge fees for JSS unless they have boarding wings." Machogu said.

However, those with students in boarding schools will have to pay fee according to their boarding fee.

Parents, teachers and the 1,233,852 candidates who sat the tests who have been waiting with bated placement can now know their fate.

Another important news updates in the education is that KNUT official in Nyandarua want Junior Secondary name to be changed to Senior Primary.
