Teachers Faults Prof Magoha Over School Closure

On Monday, 1, the Education CS Pof George Magoha ordered immediate closure of schools on Tuesday August, 2. The CS said that the closure of schools will pave way for elections slated for August 9, 2022.

Teachers have now faulted the CS over the abrupt directives. The Kuppet Secretary General, Mr Akello Misori said that it would be impossible for learners to reopen schools on August 11 just two days after elections.

"This is outright impractical, since the elections will take nearly a week to conclude. Moreover, parents need reasonable time to assess whether their children can travel and settle in schools safely," Misori said.

Instead, Mr Misori proposed that learning should begin on August 15, 2022. He termed the directives as hasty and no consultation made between the all stakeholders.

According to the Kuppet Secretary General, Misori, the CS had all time to consult all stakeholders before issuing the directives to the teachers.

Most schools are running out of time in delivering and covering the syllabus. In other schools, internal examinations had been planned for ahead of the original closure dates on August 6, 2022.

According to a gazette notice by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC, almost 250 schools will be used as tallying centres.
