Learning in Universities Set to Continue After Closure of Physical Learning

Early last year March 2020 academic activities were closed due to the Corona pandemic. This was led by the Government through setting guidelines and preventive measures to curb Corona virus in the country.

During this period all the learning institutions were closed for almost seven months. later the schools were opened following the directives set by President Uhuru and the Ministry of Health. By this time Corona cases had lowered in Kenya showing evidence that kenyans were observing the guidelines set my ministry of Health.

Again early this year after opening of all learning institutions Corona cases in the country started going up due to the third wave of the Corona virus. This led the Government to close all the learning institutions and physical learning was banned until further notice as He said in His speech. This has lead to confusion among the schools leaders and ministry of Education. This also left most of university with pending semesters and examination. Most of the universities has adopted what we call virtual learning and it has been implemented by respective institutions.

The virtual learning (Online classes) has been implemented by universities such as University of Nairobi (UoN), Kenyatta University (KU) and many others so as to continue the pending semester and other activities.

The university uses the virtual learning platform to teach and examine student. Students are allowed to read notes in form of pdfs or video classes in order to grasp content that has been taught virtually. This is advantageous because student can access the platform anytime.

The online classes has kept many students busy online reading and revising keeping them updated concerning the learning activities. it also helps students to be busy to avoid idling.

Despite that the online classes have been brought to use it has some disadvantages in learning. These are: The lecturer is unable to convey his teaching using drawing, it's costly one has to purchase some data bundles to access the virtual learning platform and lastly no practicals in the virtual classes.
