Under the new curriculum, Competency Based Curriculum, CBC, primary school teachers are required to be diploma holders from colleges.
In regard to that, trainers who will offer the training to the first cohort of diploma teachers, are expected to join Teacher Training Colleges by May after completing the training.
The first cohort of diploma teachers are expected to undergo the training for a period of three years based on CBC.
The government is in the process of rolling out quality teaching and learning based on CBC. Under the new teacher training, diploma will be the minimum level for all primary school teachers. Certificate training will be kicked out for primary school teachers training.
The admission requirements for applicants to DPTE will be a C plain as a general grade with a C plain in English and Kiswahili, Mathematics, Humanities and Sciences.
The tutors are expected to guide the teacher trainees appropriately to smoothly shift from the objective based learning to the CBC.
The aim is to expand the learners' knowledge, experiences and imaginative, understanding and also developing moral values.
The designs will enable trainers and trainees know how best to deliver quality teaching inline with the CBC.
The exercise of training trainers was done between March 8 and 12. The tutors were taken through legal frameworks and policies in education.
Under curriculum interpretation, the trainers were taken through the curriculum designs and components.
It's all good news to the diploma teacher trainees as they wait to get quality training and become real proffessionals in teaching fraternity.
