Accordingly to the Teachers Service Commission, approximately 5,000 positions will be available for permanent employment, while 6,000 will be available for internships.
TSC chief executive Nancy Macharia, indicated that these slots will help the commission prepare for the Junior Secondary School in 2023. Dr. Macharia revealed this while speaking during the release of the 2021 KCSE results at Mtihani House on Saturday, the majority of the new teachers and interns will be assigned to sub county schools that serve a large number of students. In her statement, she indicated that “During the impending recruitment, we will put more emphasis on staffing sub county secondary schools, which admit the bulk of learners.”
Dr. Macharia further said that the National Treasury has released Ksh 2.5 billion for the financial year 2022/2023 which will be used to recruit more teachers on permanent and pensionable terms. "I wish to assure the country that the Commission will immediately embark on the exercise to recruit the teachers to ensure that they report to work as soon as possible, to ease the existing teacher shortage in schools,” Dr. Macharia said. According to Macharia, an additional Ksh 1.2 billion has been set aside for intern recruitment to help with the country’s teacher shortage.
