The Education Cabinet Minister, Professor George Magoha has strongly defended teachers implementing the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC). According to him, all teachers and tutors adequately trained for the curriculum.
Mogoha was responding to claims that the training exercise was not well done. A section of parents and stakeholders have raised concerns over the effectiveness of the system with others complaining of it being expensive. Mogoha refuted the claims saying that the teachers are fully equipped to execute the curriculum.
A report by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Boss, Nancy Macharia revealed that a total of 228,000 teachers were trained to implement it. Besides, 986 public tutors and 180 private ones were trained to offer in-service training to the teachers for the betterment of the curriculum.
According to the CS, he has conducted a personal assessment in a number of schools and in all of them, he did not find any incompetent teacher. "I have never found a classroom without a qualified CBC teacher," Magoha said.
The CS said that CBC's implementation will continue as earlier planned while pointing fingers at its opposers.
