All primary and secondary schools were officially closed for a period of one week. The learners are expected to be back in school as from tomorrow to mark the beginning of term two. In connection to that, the issue of competency Based curriculum (CBC) that is replacing the 8-4-4 system still remains the order of the day.
On the other hand, cabinet Secretary professor George Magoha insisted that the new system has left the station and it is unstoppable. He urged Kenyans to get used to it. Education CAS Sarah Ruto has also come out requesting parents' involvement in the CBC. She added that CBC is based on value addition, community participation and parental engagement values.
"Under parental engagement, children learn values such as respect, concern, hardwork, humility and patience which teachers can not teach while at school," she said.
Speaking at St Paul's University in Kabuku area of Limuru, Dr Ruto said that parents should put more efforts and find fun in tackling homework with their children.
