Cases of many students struggling to get education because of lack of fees has been on the rise in Kenya i.e. many young girls and boys who have thirst for education have dropped out of school for lack of guardians to sponsor their education.
A Kisii University student has penned an emotional letter to the Deputy President Dr. William Ruto seeking help to clear his fees.
In the letter dated 23rd September, 2021, a student identified as Nixon Koech wrote that he had missed 3 consecutive graduations as there is no one to clear for his Ksh.138,200 fees arrears. Koech having had persued a coarse in education arts says that his dream of becoming a teacher had been hindered by the graduation which no student is allowed by the University to graduate without clearing all the fees.
He adds that he had struggled while in campus to meet his tuition and hostel needs while at the same time working hard single handedly to keep the demanding balance between caring and catering for his aging parent's as well as his siblings.
He now asks the DP to assist him in clearing his fees so that he may not miss the incoming graduation expected on December this year.
