From Primary Teacher To IEBC Vice Chair, Inspiring Story Of Cherera.

IEBC Vice chairperson Juliana Cherera

Independent, electoral and boundaries Commission has a new vice chairperson in the name of Juliana Cherera having been unanimously elected by the Commission members on Tuesday.

Cherera is coming in to replace former vice chairperson Consolation Nkatha who resigned alongside commissioners Margret mwachanya, Paul kurgat and roselyne Akombe in 2017.

Ms Cherera is joining other new IEBC Commissioners Francis wanderi, Irene Masit and Justus Nyangaya.

But Who is Julian Cherera?

If there is any Primary school teacher dreaming of climbing the ladder of success to the highest he/she can go, Cherera's story is very inspiring.

According to Standard, Ms Cherera once taught in Mvita Primary school at the coastal county of Mombasa.

However, even as she taught, she continued upgrading her studies and as a result she now holds a bachelor of education arts degree specializing in kiswahili and geography.

To add to that, she holds a masters in education leadership and management together with a Diploma in project management among others.

Her academic achievements could later on come in handy when the new Constitution 2010 was promulgated leading to creation of counties.

In 2015, Mombasa county government came calling whereby she was appointed by Ali Hasan joho administration to serve as Chief education Officer.

Among her achievements include introduction of free milk to school going children which presently benefits 35000 Pupils daily.

Her former employers at the county government describe her as a Staunch Christian who would put pressure on governor Joho to end religious intolerance by regularly organising meetings with religious leaders.

"The virtue that won her the IEBC seat is her calmness when everyone around her is panicking. She is very understanding". said Mombasa county director of gender Esther Ingolo.

In case things go sour in heated political arguments, Juliana has promised to stay put and defend the public interest first which is her philosophy.

Kenyans will be looking up to her to remain at the helm even when things get tough and not resigning like her predecessor.

Hers is a case study on how hard work, determination and zeal to succeed can take someone from one glory to the next. All the best to mwerera.
