As basic Education institutions are set to reopen as from 23rd January, for 2023 academic year term one, the ministry of education has revealed to parents what to expect for their Children who will be joining Grade seven (7) for Junior Secondary.
According to Education cabinet secretary Ezekiel Machogu, Junior Secondary for Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) are set to commence as from 30th January as Grade seven students.
While explaining about the subjects which will be offered in Junior Secondary, Kenya institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) clearly stated that Junior Secondary Schools are set to offer 23 subjects to the first inaugural Grade Seven Class in 2023.
However, according to KICD, learners will not be allowed to take all subjects at once since some are selective as well as others compulsory. All learners will be expected to pick atleast 14 subjects including the compulsory one.
In a press statement released to the public, KICD highlighted that Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Integrated Science, Health Education, Pre- Technical Studies, Social Studies, Business Studies, Agriculture, Life Skills Education, Sports and Physical Education will be taken by all learners across the country as compulsory subjects.
In addition, learners are expected to pick one religious Subject which is compulsory with a wide area of optional subjects among them including Arabic, Computer science, French, German, Home science, Indigenous Languages, Mandarin, Performing arts and Visual Arts.
