Opinion: Why Universities Have Not Announced Resumption Dates Yet Even After The President Reopened Them

After the president reopened the country and learning institutions yesterday, alot is expected to take place. As at now high schools and primary schools are scheduled to reopen by 10th May 2021.

Universities which Control their activities through Senate council have no definite date for reopening. The universities closed indefinitely before they finished the semester dates. This was after Uhuru Kenyatta had ordered the closure as a measure of curbing spread of Covid-19 cases. The reopening news came at the weekend. This makes them to wait until Monday when the universities will resume to determine the reopening date.

Tomorrow will be the crucial date for most of the universities. Expect several of them to send memos to their students to go back to school as soon as possible. Some universities have been ongoing with online classes. They need to assess the progress before they terminate them for physical learning. Some had even done examinations online while others had not even done online learning.

All these factors are making them to wait until Senate council for each university reconvenes for the same purpose.

We wish all of them the best as they reopen schools. Meanwhile everybody is urged to keep safe, wash hands, wear mask and sanitize well.

Thanks.
