The ministry of education cabinet George Magoha on 16th of July met the stakeholders of university education. Amongst the present were 3 vice chancellors from private universities boards, National Assembly Education Committee, University Funding board,National treasury, public universities chancellor Stephen Kiama and university education PS Simon Nabukwesi.They discussed about the fee increment for various courses and after their meeting, they concluded that university fees should not be increased until 2022 something that was announced to the public by PS Simon Nabukwesi.This is really a good news considering the hard economic times brought about by corona virus pandemic.
This meeting comes few days after the students from the university of Nairobi, went on streets to bar the institution from hiking fees.Whereby the allegations were that students undertaking degree in commerce,law and economics had to dig deep into their pockets and pay increment of 70% ,as their counterparts in medicine fields pay more than that.An action that the former Friends school Kamusinga principal ,said that it was an internal affair which the ministry was not to interfere with.
