School Calendar: Half Term Looms, How Ruto-Raila Runoff Could Affect Learning.

Professor George Magoha in a past function.

The 2022 academic calendar is very short lasting only for 29 weeks following the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 that led to closure of schools.

In a bid to bring normalcy, the ministry came up with this calendar that has forced teachers to go extra mile inorder for them to finish syllabus.

In between the tem weeks there are short breaks which are meant to relax students and pupils after a hectic time in schools.

The breaks include half Terms which only last for a few days and a weekend.

For instance, this Term's half term will only last for three days starting from may 26 this week and ending on 29.

Students will be breaking for first term holiday on july 2 for one week and come back on july 10.

With the elections scheduled for august 9, schools are likey to close again given that many of them are used as voting centres.

This therefore means that more time is set to be lost as the voting process may take a little bit extra time than what is anticipated considering that a runoff is in the mix.

The constitution requires a presidential candidate to garner 50 plus one percent of the total votes cast to be declared winner failure to which a runoff is announced.

The school Calendar may get affected more should the election results be contested in the supreme court
