Learning will be interrupted in all the public universities starting from Monday 30th August 2021. This is after UASU issued a directive to all workers in the public Universities instructing them not to report to work starting tomorrow.
The main cause of this strike is the failure of the council of all the public universities and constituent colleges to implement the 2017- 2021 collective bargaining agreement.
Here are some of the universities that will be affected by this strike. Kibabii University, Karatina University, Kenyatta University, and the Technical University of Mombasa. Check out the full list below.
Here are the three main issues that Universities Academic Staff Union want to be addressed.
1. To protest the unconstitutional and unlawful violation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 Article 41.
2. To protest the blatant violations of the fundamental rights of universities' academic staff.
3. Failure to fully implement the UASU 2017-2021Collective Bargaining Agreement.
