Kenyan Varsities That Attract Many Foreign Students

A new report that will be released today is set to expose top Kenyan Universities that attract many foreign students from abroad and other African countries.

Public reputation, global ranking of Universities, the cost of courses offered, period taken to complete certain courses and easy access to acomodation are some of the factors that foreign students consider before choosing a university - the study discovered.

The location of the University, a clearly defined curriculum calendar and availability of international students support desk also influence choices of foreign students.

University of Nairobi tops the list with the highest number of foreign students. The University has 1,600 foreign students.

It is followed by the United States International University that has 1,100 foreign students. USIU is followed by the famous Strathmore University with 660 foreign students. Private Mt Kenya follows with 560 International students.

Kenyatta University closes the top fives with a total number of 462 International students. Sixth is Moi university with 322 Students, JKUAT follows with 300, The Catholic University of Eastern Africa follows with 255. Egerton University comes 9th with 130 foreign learners. Maseno University closes the list with 119.

The study was conducted between February and March this year targeting International students in over 71 Kenyan universities. 6,202 Students In Kenya are foreigners.

The study also established that majority of the students are aged between 18 to 25 years. A huge junk of the students is from neighboring Uganda followed by Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania and Nigeria. The rest are spread from Rwanda, Burudani, Malawi and Zimbabwe.

These students mostly study business and Economics, Medical courses, Engineering and Information Technology.
