Moi university fraternity has regretfully announced the sudden demise of a friend, colleague, lecturer, mentor, and Associate Professor that has occurred hours ago, prof. Omar Egesah on 17th March 2021. The late Professor complained of body aches a week ago that persisted until yesterday. He rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital at around 5:00 p.m.
On arrival at the hospital, he tested positive for COVID-19. The medical attendants immediately put the Professor under the intensive care unit (ICU) on a ventilator. At around 10:00 p.m, Prof. Omar phoned a friend and colleague at the school of Arts and Social Sciences to brief him that he is reacting positively to the medication.
Unfortunately, today morning, 18th March 2021 at around 8: 00 am, the Professor passed on. Colleagues at the department said that the Professor was in good health and attended his duties as usual. There were no common signs and symptoms associated with the Coronavirus. His body has been preserved at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, awaiting send-off.
These are some of the words from one of his closest colleagues, “Gives me a bad feeling. I regret the loss of Professor. He was a friend, colleague, and mentor. Professor has had a great impact on Moi University and has promoted several academics mentorship programs. Such a loss.”
Professor served Moi university as a lecturer for both undergraduate and postgraduate students since June 1994 and as a full professor of Anthropology at the Department of Sociology,
Psychology, and Anthropology since September 2019.
“We as the Moi university fraternity send our prayers and condolences to the friends and family of Professor. May the Lord comfort shower you with the peace that surpasses human understanding these difficult times. In our hearts, you will live.”
SHINE ON YOUR WAY PROF. OMAR.
