Get the COVID-19 jab or face disciplinary action, TSC tells teachers

The teachers service commission (TSC) is dismayed by the low number of teachers who have come out to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Speaking yesterday, TSC boss Dr Nancy Macharia has given teachers 7 days to receive the vaccine or thereafter face disciplinary actions from the commission.

She insisted that teachers are the Frontline soldiers in the fight against the pandemic and they should lead by example to receive the vaccine so as to set a good example to the rest of other public servants.

Since the vaccination began, it is only 110,432 teachers who have so far gotten the vaccine against a target of 330671 teachers who are in TSC payroll.

It is also reported that a total of 549 teachers have contracted the virus and out of those 81 have succumbed to the deadly virus.

Yesterday saw a large number of teachers in Nakuru level five who thronged the hospital to receive the dose of the vaccine in an attempt to beat the tight deadline.

There are also more than 150,000 teachers in private schools who are also a target group for the mass vaccination rolled out by the government.
