Kenyan education sector was affected by corona virus last year. The 2020 academic calendar was affected after all schools were closed in March, 2020. This was after Kenya had recorded the first case of corona virus. Students went home with hopes of returning to school after few weeks but it 00was not the case. After several months, schools were reopened partially for second term. Grade 4, standard 8 and form four students are the only one who went back for second in October, 2020.
The ministry of education put in place measures that enabled schools to open. All learners reported back to school on 4th January, 2021. One week is over since the reopening of schools and nothing bad has been reported so far. Teachers Service Commission boss Nancy Macharia announced that teachers who have 58 years and above were to remain and work from home.
This was a good message to these teachers. Today this group of teachers have received bad message from Belio Kipsang. According to Nation news, Kipsang has stated that teachers who are above 58 years will be required to report in schools. They will start working from school but observe Covid-19 protocols.
