It is the mandate of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to develop an open performance appraisal system for teachers under its umbrella. The performance appraisal system help the commission to strengthen supervision and continuous monitoring of the performance of teachers in the maintenance of the teaching standards at the institutional level.
In this regard, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) had introduce the Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development (TPAD) with an aim to evaluate teachers' performance. The Performance appraisal is also crucial for the Commission, as it serves the purpose of reviewing and improving teaching standards through a systemic appraisal approach
TSC TPAD is the most effective and professional evaluation tool for teachers though most Teachers view it as a punitive tool, designed to humiliate them and deny them promotions from lower job groups when they are due. In fact nowadays TPAD ratings are a mandatory requirement for any teacher attending a promotional TSC interview.
The Teachers Service Commission requires all teachers who are employed under their Umbrella to fill and complete the TPAD Online every term. However, teachers should note that only completed TPADs can be Submitted successfully but it is quiet unfortunate that most teachers do not complete filling their TPADs.
Incomplete TPAD is one of the things which may make a teacher to have low TPAD rating standards. Teachers should therefore try as much as possible to complete filling their termly online TPAD in time before submitting to avoid having low TPAD rating.
Teachers are also expected by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to upload evidence when filling the TPAD. If a teacher gives rating without evidence then it means that the ratings are false. Failure to give evidence will also make a to have low rating standards in TPAD. Each standard in the TPAD requires evidence therefore teachers should fail to upload evidence as far as TPAD rating is concerned.
