Police in Kiambu county cancelled two political events after parties booked the same grounds in the same day on Sunday to drum up support for their respective candidates a head of Kiambaa by-election scheduled on July 15.
United Democratic Alliance liked to Deputy President William Ruto and Jubilee Party are said to have booked Karuri Primary School grounds in Kiambaa constituency where Jubilee wanted to hold a prayer meeting for its Candidate Kariri Njama while UDA wanted to play a football match to drum support for John Njuguna.
Speaking on Sunday, Kiambu Deputy County Commander Ali Nuno said the police blocked the parties from holding the events for fear of insecurity and lawlessness. “We only knew of one event here, but this morning we received another letter. I want to condemn the administration of Karuri Primary School for allowing two events to take place," Ali Nuno said adding that both parties had letters.
Talking to Citizen TV on the same issue one Jubilee candidate, Kariri Njama reported that the headteacher was not aware of UDA's planned meeting in the school and he was surprised to hear that UDA wanted to use the school for the said match. Key UDA Supporters condemned Jubilee for instigating chaos in their match.
