Egerton University Suspends 230 Students Over A Strike

Egerton University has suspended 230 students from the University over the strike which let to the closure of the University on 4th December 2019.

The 230 students were surprised when they were handed suspension letters on the reopening date of the University. The University had been closed again for 7 months when the country recorded the first coronavirus case.

Among the suspended students is the Alumni who graduated last year on 29th November with a Bachelor degree from the school of Engineering. According to standard media, the 230 suspended students have joined a group of 7 student leaders who were suspended earlier in January. The 237 students are therefore awaiting for the Disciplinary committee meeting of the University.

The strike also imposed tough fine of Sh.16,862 to each student at the University to cater for the loss the University incurred in the strike. The students will therefore be notified on when they'll report at the University to face the Disciplinary action.
