HELB, over the years has ensured that these students get a yearly stipend of about 37,000 Kenya shillings that ensures the students stay in their various institutions.
The Ministry of Education has filed a motion in Parliament that seeks to increase the current HELB loan of 37,000 Kenya shillings as it is to little for the students.
The Ministry of Education wants Parliament to pass the law that will see the University students in the country get upto 200,000 Kenya shillings annually.
Should this bill be passed by Parliament, this will he a record amount in the country and many students will be burdened with offsetting the loan once they are through with school.
The Ministry of Education has insisted that the current conditions in the country render the 37,000 Kenya shillings as too little an amount.
