Magoha: Junior secondary to be offered in boarding, day schools

The subject of junior secondary schools under CBC has been clarified by George Magoha.

Both junior secondary schools would offer boarding and day schools, according to the CS.

"Under CBC, learners transitioning from Grade 6 to Grade 7 will be admitted to all existing boarding and day secondary institutions," Magoha stated.

The changeover, according to the CS, will be based on the curriculum provided by the ministry.

Magoha went on to say that his government has identified 1,500 elementary schools that would be used to house the junior secondary schools, all of which have suitable learning and teaching facilities."All existing boarding and day secondary schools will accept learners transitioning to junior secondary," stated Magoha.

In addition, the education ministry has surveyed private schools about the possibility of establishing stand-alone junior secondary schools.

This, according to Magoha, will allow students to fully transfer to secondary school.

"The taskforce created to implement CBC and transition from primary school made recommendations," he stated.

He went on to say that the implementation of CBC and the transition from primary to junior high and then senior secondary school is based on the Taskforce's recommendations from 2019.

According to KICD, they have already designed curriculum from PP1 to grade seven.

More course materials are being developed by KICD ahead of the complete implementation.

Teachers are undergoing CBC training, which is expected to be completed by the end of this week.

Over 60,000 secondary school teachers, both public and private, are currently getting training.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has trained a total of 229,000 teachers in 47 counties.
