Panic As over 35 Universities Plan to Strike From Monday, 30th August

As the 2021/22 academic calendar resumes in the start of the month of September, universities under the Universities Academic Union (UASU) have issued a seven day strike notice.

The Union is complaining of the failure in full implemention of the UASU-IPUCCF 2017 - 2021 collective bargaining Agreement.

The union is also protesting the unconstitutional and unlawful violation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 article 41(1), 2a and (5) and the blatant violation of the fundumental rights and freedom of the Universities' staff.

"Our members in All Public and Private Universities and their consequent colleges, shall withdraw their labour and shall not resume duty until the UASU-IPUCCF 2017-2021 Collective bargaining Agreement is fully implemented." Reads in part, the circular signed by Dr C Wasonga, the secretary General of UASU.

The planned strike is to commence on Monday, 30th August and is to continue up to a later unspecified date.

Among the top universities are the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, JKUAT, Maseno and many others.
