Tragedy has stricken students of one popular learning institution after an accident that killed two. The two students from the Michuki Technical Training Institute are reported to have drowned on Sunday 16th January after their visit to a local waterfall became deadly. According to witnesses and residents of Iyego village, where the incident happened on Sunday afternoon, the two were part of a group of friends from the school who were on a hiking mission to the Karuuga waterfalls.
According to the friends, a female student slipped into the waters while trying to take a photo and plunged into the raging waters of River Mathioya which is currently full to its banks. On seeing that, another male student jumped into the river in a bid to save the girl but was unfortunately wept away by the raging waters. Efforts to rescue them turned futile and retrieval of bodies expected to resume today.
