Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 1000 job vacancies for Diploma Teachers. This has been received as good news to 3,800 teachers in Secondary schools who are set to compete for promotion posts.
Most of the teachers with Diploma qualifications have stayed in the same job group for over six years.
This is however different to their counterparts with Degree certificates who takes a short time to be promoted.
In a circular send to Regional Directors, Teacher's Service Commission Director In charge of staffing , Ritah Wahome said that Interviews are scheduled to be conducted next week.
According to Wahome, the interviews will be conducted from 24th of May to 28th of May. Kenya Union for Post Primary Education Teachers secretary General Akello Misori says that the current Diploma teachers enter the service with job group C1 (T-scale 6) previously job group J.
Degree holders on the other hand enter the service under job group C2 (T-scale 7) under the career progression guidelines stipulated in 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
