Students Should Not Expect Schools To Reopen Next Month After This News Broke (Opinion)

Kenyans are yet to put a smile on their faces due to the adverse effects of Covid 19 in the country. The pandemic has resulted to many challenges not only in Kenya, but also to the rest of the world. Everyone has now realized that Covid 19 is indeed not a 'child's play' following the contagious nature of the virus.

Yesterday, the ministry of health confirmed an increase of positivity rates to 12.7%. With the developments that were made by the government of Kenya towards the fight against Covid 19 months ago, the rates have never settled at low values like 5% or low. We cannot expect them to reduce up to the required degree within the two weeks that are remaining to school resumption dates.

It's everyone's wish and prayer that schools revert to the normal calendar for a smooth continuation of teaching and learning activities but according to my perspective, students should not expect schools to reopen in May 10th. This is basically because the concerned authority had earlier confirmed that students' lives will not be risked to the pandemic.
