Learning And First Year Admission To Be Disrupted As Lecturers Strike Kicks On

The Universities Academic Staff Union had given a seven day notice strike that is set to begin on Monday after the government failed to meet their terms. The strike, which has come at a period where most students are awaiting their exams and first years set to join, is expected to affect major operations of universities.

The lecturers had complained that the government and university Vice chancellors were divided on the decision of increasing salaries and benefits of lecturers according to their CBA. The strike is set to last until the agreement is met because without doing that the government will not listen to their grievances.

The previous strikes by UASU took over two months to be called off. The one anticipated to begin on Monday as speculated, may take more time as the government and universities face crisis economically which has given them challenges in meeting the lecturers demands.
