Residents of Mwea in Embu County are still finding it hard to come to terms with an incident whereby a Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidate went missing on the day he started his exam and his body was later found in a river near there home.
Kennedy Macharia, the student, had done his first papers of KCPE on Monday and returned home. It is alleged that the pupil was told by his mother to go and fetch water from River Thiba but never returned home.
When the boy failed to return home on Monday, the mother reported the incident to the police and a search was launched immediately.
Confirming the incident is the Mwea Sub-County police boss, Emmanuel Kiplang'at who said that the body of the deceased was spotted on Wednesday by residents between rocks in the same river that he had gone to fetch water. The police were called to the scene to retrieved the body.
The sleuths believe that the boy might have drowned while attempting to swim or was killed and thrown into the river by someone. The real cause of the death will be establishes once investigations are complete.
The body of the deceased was taken to Embu Level Five Hospital Mortuary for postmortem. We send our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
