No salary raise for public teachers in primary and secondary schools.

The teachers of primary and secondary schools will have to wait at least for one year before they can get any salary raise after KNUT and KUPPET unions agreed with their employers on a new worker deal.

On Tuesday the two unions signed a new worker's deal on condition that it last for only one year. This comes after the union had declared their strong stance of not taking anything but a pay rise.

The KUPPET secretary general Midori Akello, said that the commission will call them back to review the documents that they had signed.

The Salaries and Remuneration commission(SRC) had suspended reviewing of salaries for all civil servants.SRC declared that it would not review basic salary structures, allowances and benefit in the year 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 following recommendations from the National Treasury.

KUPPET led by their secretary general said that they compromised with SRC to give them one year to start salary increments. The agreement was expected to run until June 2026.
