300 Students In Bomet Fall Ill Over What Is Suspected To Be Food Poisoning

According to the Nation,at least 300 students fell ill In Kamaget Secondary Bomet Coutny, Chepalungu sub-county over what is suspected to be food poisoning.On Friday evening the students complained of stomach aches and were rushed to the nearby Siongiroi helth centre. On reaching the health centre, 148 students were referred to the Siongiroi Sub-county hospital.

The Bomet County Executive in charge of Medical Services and Public Health Dr Joseph Sitonik confirmed the incident and said that the affected learners are currently receiving treatment in Longisa county referral hospital,Tenwek Hospital, Siongiroi sub-county hospital and Siongiroi health centre. Dr Sitonik said that 70 of the students are undergoing with their treatment as outpatients in the Siongiroi health center.

It is suspected that the students ate contaminated food during a celebration held in the school on Thursday where a newly constructed hall was being handed over to the school officially by the contractor.

Doctor Sitonik has said that samples have been taken to a government chemist for testing in order for the cause of the illness to be established.
