Today's Nation Newspaper Headline Leaves Kenyans Talking

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha released KCPE results on Thursday 15 April. He revealed that public schools performed better than private schools.

He was impressed by public schools performance because they overcame challenges like high number of students and inadequate learning and teaching resources.

Most people feared that the long break that was caused by Covid-19 would adversely affect the performance of students in public schools.

Private schools managed to conduct online learning while public schools remained inactive waiting for the order to open schools.

From the 15 top performers public primary schools produced 10 students and 4 students from top five performers. This has impressed many people and was made the headline of today's Daily Nation Newspaper headline.

People on Facebook had different opinions towards the headline. Some claimed that the good performance was because the textbook-student ratio in public schools is now 1:1.

One identified as Kuria Wa Njuguna wrote, "Did you know the current ration of students to textbooks in public schools is now 1:1? All students have textbooks now."

Others claimed that it may be because most students learn in private schools but register for KCPE in public schools to increase the chances of going to national schools.
