Schools Risk Closure, Government Assesses Number Of Schools Affected As Drought Bites in Tana River

The Government has been trying hard to make sure that learners are contained in schools despite the hard economic times that the country is going through.Today, majority of the schools cannot afford to provide food for their learners under the feeding programs which are conducted in some schools.Just the other day, President William Ruto flagged off relief food to the hard hit areas where lives are getting lost due to hunger.

Teachers and students risk to go home in case the schools in Tana River will be closed. The drought is seriously threatening the learning in the schools and even further threatening the coming national exams.

It has emerged that parents are migrating with their animals and children thus leaving schools empty.

Before the decision on whether to close the schools or not, the Government through the department of Education has started assessing the number of schools that are affected by the disaster. The County Director of Education for Tana River has confirmed this. This is quite unfortunate for learners.
