In spite of Covid 19 being amidst of us, research has shown that students are not at not at a high risk of contracting Corona virus as compared to teachers and school workers. Besides, while schools were still running their activities back in January to March this year, we hardly recorded cases of students contracting the virus that causes Covid 19.
Therefore, learners should not be strained and instead be allowed to complete their third term as from 10th May then be given a 5-months holiday as vaccination continues. This will serve as a problem solver especially in the case of students feeling delayed to complete their studies. Relatively, it will also give the government a chance to monitor and evaluate the key areas of concern in the fight against Covid 19 as students continue with learning activities.
Adjourning of the resumption dates will not only delay the education progress but also other disturbing cases like early pregnancies and marriages, students dropping out of schools, involvement in drug abuse and trafficking etc. To avoid such cases just as it happened last year, the government should therefore allow the learners to resume as earlier scheduled. By the time we reach 2022, the cases could have mitigated and the new calendar will be be followed.
