A KCPE Candidate Delivers A Child A Few Minutes Before Writing Her Mathematics Exam Paper

A Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidate in Tharaka constituency, Tharaka Nithi County, has today morning welcomed a baby few minutes before sitting for her Mathematics exam.

The pupil had been taken to the Marimanti Hospital where she safely delivered her child since her baby's days were due.

Confirming the incident is the Area Education Director, Salecio Maringe who said that the candidate will continue taking her exam from the hospital until she gets well. In the sub-county, over 2,000 pupils are sitting for the KCPE exams.

The incident has happened on a day when the KCPE and the KPSEA exams have kicked off countrywide and the exams are expected to end on Wednesday. It is estimated that over 2.5 million pupils will undertake the exams. The number has become the highest to have ever been recored in Kenya.

Today morning, Ezekiel Machogu, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, oversaw the distribution of the national exams and assured Kenyans that no exam malpractice will be witnessed.
