It has emerged that after almost three week since the resumption of academic activities across the country, the numbers of Covid 19 cases has risen.
This comes after three months of school closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Remembering that on the 1st of May, 2021 The President, ordered the resumption of schools activities for distinguished learners to continue with their face-to-face and class room lessons.
After it emerged that five cases of the Indian covid variant were found barely a week after the presidential order. A week after the confirmation of the new variant, the Kenyan Ministry of Health released an update after 15 out of 17 covid positive samples were caused by Indian COVID-19 variant.
Statistical studies have shown that the cases are rising and the latest reports bring troubling details which showed that many learners might suffer badly due to the Incondusive learning environment in the academic institutions in the country.
Even as the world marks over 1 year since the confirmation of the first case of COVID-19, the Ministry of Education is yet to come up with effective strategies to guarantee the safety of the learning environments. Basic precautions like social distancing and wearing of face masks among others are still difficult to implement in schools.
The genetic traits of the Indian variant is yet to be understood by medical practitioners hence production of vaccination becomes difficult. To tackle the situation, the first step the president needs to put in place is the closure of all schools and public houses. By so doing, online education can be developed and the spread of the virus effectively tamed.
