Teachers of Kenya are among the lucky Kenyans who are covered by several medical insurances. Aside from the well known NHF medical insurance, Kenyan teachers are covered by AON Minet insurance. AON Minet came in to replace the medical allowance that was given to teachers. The insurance was created to help teachers access quality medical care.
Nevertheless, things seem to go in limbo with AON Minet. This is after several hospitals refuse to accept the AON Minet insurance. Few hospitals have been accepting the use of AON hence teachers have had to travel several miles so as to access medical services.
The latest hospital to suspend medical services to teachers is Tenwek Hospital in Baringo. According to inside sources, Tenwek Hospital suspended medical services to teachers following huge debt by AON. It seems AON is not paying for the medical services despite taking teachers money. A good number of teachers have also been complaining of AON Minet Insurance not being useful.
As a teacher, do you think AON should be eliminated and medical allowance be paid to teachers? Bearing in mind teachers still pay for NHF? Share your thought
