On 26th March 2021, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced cessation of movement in Nairobi county alongside other four counties due to the frequent increased cases of COVID-19 infections in the regions. The other four counties that the President announced lockdown on them were: Machakos, Kajiado, Murang'a and Nakuru. The President also announced that learning activities in all institutions are also suspended until further notice and this was not only effective in the locked down counties but also in the other 42 remaining/counties all over the country.
On 1st May 2021 during the labour day celebrations at the Statehouse, the President announced that the cessation of movement in the 5 locked counties has been lifted because the COVID-19 infection cases have reduced. After unlocking the 5 counties, the President went ahead to announce that the school opening dates remain unchanged and this means that all school will open on 10th May 2021 as scheduled before by the Ministry of Education. If that is what is going to happen, it means that also Universities, Tertiary Colleges and Medical Training Institutions are also going to open with the Primary and Secondary schools.
This is a good news to Moi University students particularly those who are in 3rd year. This is because the 3rd year students in Moi University have not been having a consistent learning program since they joined the University in 2017. On 26th October 2017, fresh presidential elections was to be held in following the Supreme Court's annulment of the results of the presidential vote in the August 2017 general elections. After the repeat elections, the lectures in all public universities went on a strike affecting learning activities in the Universities. Since 2019, the Moi University 3rd years are still in the same class because of the University closure due to lectures strike, demonstration and COVID-19 pandemic.
These students worry a lot on when they will finish schooling at Moi University and therefore following the President's announcement on 1st May 2021 is one of the best news to them.
3rd year Moi University students are you happy? Thank you for reading and please comment then follow for more updates.
