Raila's Sweet Promise That Has Left Chuka University Students in Celebration

ODM Party leader Raila Odinga has addressed students at Chuka University main campus in Tharaka Nithi County, leaving them in celebration after making a sweet promise.

The leader made his debut into the Institution after successfully touring the counties of Embu and Meru on his journey of "climbing the Mountain". During his tour, he was accompanied by other vocal leaders including Meru County governor Kiraitu Murungi, Fatma Gedi, Hon Kanini Kega, Junet Mohammed among others.

Speaking to the students, Raila has promised that he will transform Higher Education Loan (HELB) into a Grant once he assumes power, remarks which were highly celebrated by the comrades.

The loan is usually given to eligible students who find it difficult to finance their education. The maximum amount a student can qualify for is currently Kshs 60,000 annually, disbursed in two trenches. Beneficiaries are required to begin servicing the loan a year after graduating.

Majority have been seeking for extension of the gross period as most graduates do not manage to secure employment within the year. The BBI report had addressed the issue seeking extension of the period to five years, subject to employment details of the beneficiary.

This is why Raila's promise on HELB made the comrades celebrate him owing to the struggle and pressure Imposed on them upon graduation.
