Everything Kenyans Need To Know About CBC In 2021

CBC stands for competency Based Curriculum, is a new education system in Kenya that is currently set to replace the 8-4-4 system. The system was introduced in 2017 after being researched and developed by Kenya Institute Of Curriculum Development.

Here are a list of things people need to know about CBC:

1.Children will spend two years in pre- primary,six years in primary and six years in secondary school.

2.Countries that were used to benchmark the new learning system; Canada and Israel are Kenya's model countries of CBC implementation.

3.KCPE will cease to exist as it will be replaced by the assessment which is a combination of formative and summative tests.

4.In CBC the entry age to secondary school has been lowered from 14 years to 12 years and learners will spend a total of 6 years in secondary school as opposed to the usual 4 years.

5.CBC focuses on learner's performance of skills and competencies that are observable.

6.The core competencies in CBC are: communication and collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving, imagination and creativity, Citizenship, learning to learn,self efficacy and digital literacy.
