13 Guidelines Students Travelling Out of the Country Need to Fulfill Before Getting Permit

Ministry of Education under the stewardship of the outgoing Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha as released 13 guidelines for students seeking to travel out of the country.

In a statement released on Monday, Director of Quality Assurance Dr. Mary Gaturu said that the Ministry of Education released the Guidelines which are ment to ensure the safety of the learners and a way of monitoring their progress.

First, Students seeking oermit to travel will first be required to obtain a letter from te school they are going to.

The schools that will be involved in facilitating the travel of the students will be required to provide a full list of travelling students.

In the list, names of students, admission number, date of birth and passport numbers must be indicated.

Parents will also be required to give consent which the ministry will prove through a copy of their identity cards and confirmed by a stamped letter from the school. 

Court order in respect to legal guardianship, proof of sponsorship, Copy of Students Passport and Invitation letter by host country or institution must also be availed before travel.

In order for Teachers to accompany the students will they will be required to provide a clearance letter from Teachers Service Commission.

Further Teachers from private schools will have to avail a copy of their passports, ID Cards, and appointment or introduction letter from the institution.

The school administration will further be required to have the medical cover of the students catered for set to fly out of the country.

School heads will also be expected to demostrate how the students will account for the time lost during their international travels.

The ministry also said that the students cannot travel more than 2 weeks when schools are in session and 3 weeks during the school holidays.

On learners safety, the ministry said that a female and a male teacher must accompany the students whether they are comprising of girls or boys alone or even if it's one boy or girl and they should take charge of the minors.

In conclusion, Gaturu said that all children, whether in or out of school should seek clearance from the Director of Children Services and their documents should be arraigned in accordance with the list of students and filed in a clear folder.
